The Telecommunications Systems Sales Engineer will be responsible for developing the business for a group of telecommunications systems manufacturers which are represented by Codecom. The position entails being part salesperson, part consultant, and part team leader in a consultative sales engineering process. Responsible for sales to local exchange carriers, ISPs and emerging global carriers, resellers and system integrators. Responsibilities include: technical presentation to customers, develop and nurture customer relationships, preparation of responses to RFP's, be involved in contract negotiations and achieve sales objectives. The position is the first level of pre and post sales support to the customers. Will work as part of a team with a Sales Support Engineer and report to the Vice President Sales. Travel will be required throughout the Caribbean. Based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in engineering
- 3-7 years sales or sales support experience with telecommunications infrastructure, particularly with sales of telecom equipment similar to those sold by Codecom; experience with corporate clients, at executive level is strongly recommended
- Good knowledge of public switched telephone network
- Good oral and written communications skills, including strong presentation skills and the ability to cultivate personal relationships at client executive levels is a must
- Ability to learn and apply in-depth technical understanding of complex telecommunications systems
- Fully bilingual (English & Spanish)
- Ability to communicate complex technical information in the form of sales proposals
- Good leadership, project management, teamwork, and supervisory skills
- Excellent skills in proposal preparation, including pricing strategies is desirable
- General knowledge of the telecommunications industry, its issues, players, etc. is an advantage
- Conceptual familiarity with related technologies, e.g. ATM, IP, FR, E1/SDH (or T1/SONET), etc.;
Experience which would be a plus in the selection:
- Experience in IP-Telephony, Internet or software systems.
- Professional Engineer license.
- Experience with digital cross connect, soft-switches, central office, or fiber optics systems.
- BS in Telecommunications, Telecommunications Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Science or similar specialized degrees.
- Analytical ability to explore and understand customersÂ’ business requirements/needs, to identify new/additional opportunities where Codecom can respondÂ…and to qualify opportunities
- Business/strategic selling skills, i.e. the ability to develop sales strategies and use proven or innovative techniques/tools to achieve sales success
- Understanding of the political and regulatory environment for telecom service providers in the country
- Understanding of the competitive vendors, their offerings, weak and strong points, i.e. ability to assess competitive positioning of Codecom solutions
- Natural ability/talent for understanding the business and general technical needs, problems, issues, etc. of target market/customers.
